The Design, Performance, and Analysis of Slug Tests
Published in Hardcover by Lewis Publishers, Inc. (25 November, 1997)
Author: James J., Jr. Butler
Average review score:

A useful reference for the practicing hydrogeologist
The Design, Performance, and Analysis of Slug Tests is a text which walks the reader through all the necessary steps for obtaining information about the transmissive nature of formations through slug testing. Butler gives not only a theoretical understanding of the slug test in this book, but he also gives many caveats and pitfalls which may be encountered when using the method. Butler explains to the reader which field methods and analysis methods are best suited for various situations. He also gives special reccomendations for formations of high and low hydraulic conductivity. This book is not meant to be read from cover to cover, but is an excellent reference for the field hydrogeologist. The topic is limited in scope - a fact which allows the coverage of the material to be superb.

Dictionary of the Tarot
Published in Paperback by Schocken Books (September, 1987)
Author: Bill Butler
Average review score:

A tarot classic.
This book, which stands up to the standards of Schocken Books and which should not be out of print, is one of my favourite.

The book compares the design and interpretation of each tarot card between many decks (e.g. Rider-Waite, Thoth, Marseilles, Golden Dawn, Gringonneur, Visconti-Sforza, and B.O.T.A), giving background material to the tarot deck as well as some specific cards.

The comparison is concise and intelligent, giving insight into both the cards' interpretation, design, and historical developement, which makes it unique.

Several spreads are given (10 cards Celtic Cross, 21 cards Gypsy Method, a method from MacGregor Mather's book The Tarot, an adaptation from Crowley's Book of Thoth, etc), which make the book a complete handbook.

A useful glossary of terms and a bibliography, which is useful for anyone who wants to study the tarot in greater depth, close this excellent book.

I highly recommend this book - is worth every cent I paid for it.

this is a magical collection
Any dog lover would enjoy this book. It is a treasure trove of masterfully crafted stories. There is very little sentimental sappiness, the collection focusing mainly on the ways dogs enhance the lives of humans. I applaud this book and hope to see more of the same caliber!

Donna the Galgo

Donna the Galgo
SHE'S ALMOST HUMAN! How wonderful to find that a dog, not many know anything about except to bet on at the "Dogtrack," is such a great pet too! It's such a shame that soo many of this breed are not fully understood for their value as a pet that has centuries of history and purebred lines that rival the best of AKA showdogs. This story is told in such a loveable way. The children I read it to fall in love with Donna instantly and listen intently to her funfilled venture to Mexico. When we finnish the book and say goodbye...everyone asks,"what is she going to do next?" If one is not a real dog lover, "Donna the Galgo" certainly supplies a desire to run down and adopt one who has failed its race career and is looking for a new life!

Dreaming
Published in Paperback by Fawcett Books (July, 1987)
Author: Bonnie Butler
Average review score:

Dreaming by Bonnie Butler
This is an excellent book. This is the story of a very overweight girl going into junior high and dealing with her mother dating, being a misfit with no friends whatsoever, and being taunted relentlessly by Miss Popularity, Marilyn. Lois seems to not want any friends and takes her anger out on food. This proves to be a problem when she grows larger and larger. She finds solace in a teacher who takes Lois under her wing, puts her on a diet and helps build her back up when she is emotionally abused by a teacher who yells at her for no reason and allows the class to laugh at her. This is definitely a book to read if you're into teasing others for being different. It will show you what you're doing to that person.

Early Poems (Dover Thrift Editions)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (January, 1994)
Author: William Butler Yeats
Average review score:

Excellent Introduction to Yeats
As a student, who is hard on cash, I found that this collection of poems by the great Irish author and poet W.B. Yeats was definitely an excellent collection to buy and read. This collection encompasses all of the collections written by the young poet during his early period. Particularly notable are "The Shepherd to His Beloved", "The Lake Isle of Innisfree" and other poems that have become immortal over the years. There are also poems that deal with Irish myths and legends and several poems written as dialogues or plays. This is an excellent collection that will introduce you to the worldd of Yeats if you haven't yet been introduced and further your understanding of this Irish genius.

Entrepreneurship and Self-Help Among Black Americans: A Reconsideration of Race and Economics (Suny Series in Ethnicity and Race in American Life)
Published in Paperback by State Univ of New York Pr (October, 1991)
Author: John Sibley Butler
Average review score:

Superb sociological overview of Black entrepreneurship
I used this publication for a school paper on the history of black economic development, and it was really my most invaluable resource. Not only does Butler discuss black entrepreneurship throughout American history, but he also compares the experiences of African-Americans to other ethnic groups and explains why African-Americans have been so relatively unsuccessful because of a theory that he calls the "economic detour theory." Chock full of information, it is not only a historical account but a sociological study into the state of black economic development. It is highly recommended!
